This festival is an annual festival that takes place always on the last weekend in August in Horsens, Denmark.
It’s a unique journey to the past, organized in the former prison “FÆNGSLET” – a truly fantastic place for all the festival’s activities.
If you’d like to listen to medieval music or see the crafts and ways of life of people who lived 500 years ago – the European Medieval Festival is a perfect travel tip!
Horsens City, with its history of more than 570 years, is probably the best host of this festival to achieve historical awareness in modern society; a fantastic experience for children and a place of festive and fun for Horsens citizens and its guests.
The medieval festival Horsens is organized by the city’s municipality, followed by different associations, businesses and citizens.
Programme of the European Medieval Festival
Even this year, it will take you to all sides of the life of people who lived in medieval times with more than 30 artists and groups from all around Europe.
Entry to the European Medieval Festival is FREE of charge.
For souvenirs – you’ll find all kinds of things that people sold five centuries ago; medieval clothes, wooden swords, knight’s equipment, leather bags, wooden bowls, instruments and much more.
The European Medieval Festival is kids friendly place and a children’s area with different activities, so take your kids with you.
Activities like puppet theatre and storytelling will be an unforgettable experience for little ones who come to Horsens.
Sounds of medieval music, and authentic instruments of past times, will take place at three stages performed by skilled music groups.
Last year’s performers have been: Ramashang, Ranild, Virelai from Denmark, Spielleute Eygenart from Germany, Cornalusa from Portugal, Krabat and Kalabalik from Sweden and Rebule from the Czech Republic.
On every corner, you’ll be able to see all kinds of acrobatics, types of dancing or magic tricks and juggling.
Like every year up to now, the festival will show Italian flag throwers and their parade throughout the space of the festival.
Performers will be published on the Festival Homepage in June/July.
