On the 3rd weekend of October, Hasselt hosts the fun and fabulous Jenever Festival.
Experience all the tastes and colours of this national drink in Hasselt, the Jenever capital of Belgium.
There’s music, dance, street theatre, and, of course, plenty of good food.
Even the city fountain gets in on the act with water changing to jenever.
Live cooking demonstrations will show you creative ways to use jenever, and there will be plenty of options to try out some jenever-based cocktails.
It’s one of the most exuberant city parties in all of Belgium.
Jenever is a liquor made in Belgium for over 500 years.
The Jenever Festival celebrates the history, the heritage and the current role Jenever plays.

Since 2008, it’s had its own’ appelation d’origine contrôlée’, which means that only Belgium, the Netherlands, and parts of France and Germany may produce the drink that bears the name jenever/genever, genièvre or peket.
