24 – 28 July 2019
San Sebastian, the beautiful Basque city in the north of Spain along the Bay of Biscay has made the cut.
In 2016 it was declared European Capital of Culture.
This does not really come as a surprise because San Sebastian, or Donostia to call it by its local name, is a center of culture and food tourism as well as a popular seaside resort.
In 2019 San Sebastian Jazz Festival has gone on for 54 years, and has during those years become a world famous International Jazz Festival.
Heineken Jazzaldia, is the official name and is in honour to the brewery which sponsors the event.
Popular venues of San Sebastian Jazz Festival are Trinidad Square in the Old Town, Peine del Viento and the Kursaal Palace near the Kursaal bridge.
But, the best venue is the Green Stage in the heart of Zurriola Beach.
Here you find thousands of spectators gather on the sand, bringing their food and drink to enjoy the music for free.
Check out when the free concerts are in the programme, and enjoy the music, beach and open air.

A tour to the pinxos bars in San Sebastian’s Old Town is a great thing to do when you are here.
You have probably heard of the typical Spanish snack called tapas, but pinxos is a whole new food experience.
The word comes from the toothpick or skewer which holds the food together and is used instead of a fork.
The chefs of the pinxos bars in San Sebastian outdo each other with the sophistication of their creations.
Croquettas, usually made from mashed potatoes, are here filled with three kinds of ham and mushrooms.
Shrimps, pieces of lobster or mini steaks, it seems there is nothing that cannot be accommodated on a thin slice of bread.
Therefore, alternating between jazz concerts and some pinxos tours is the best way to enjoy this festival.
