Blanes is situated on the coast in the Girona district in Catalonia.
It is called the gateway to Costa Brava, the first town on the Costa Brava Coast.
The little rock called “Sa Palomera” divides the beach in two and marks the official start-point of Costa Brava.
Blanes is a top-rated tourist destination with beautiful beaches and among the clearest water along the coast.

You can take the train to Blanes from Barcelona, which takes about one and a half hours. (Rodalies de Catalunya)
There are also buses going between Blanes and Barcelona / Barcelona Airport. (Sagalés bus)
Beaches
S’Abanell Beach
The main beach in Blanes is the 2-kilometre-long beach S’Abanell. You see it on almost any postcard from here, and it is a lovely beach.
Blanes Beach “Platja de Blanes”
This beach is 625 meters from the old city centre, between the rock “Sa Palomera” to the marina and harbour.

Blanes Fireworks Competition
The most significant event in Blanes is the Fireworks Competition. It is held every year, usually the last weekend of July.
The fireworks centre around the rock “Sa Palomera”, which divides the beach in two and marks the line between the old town and the newer one where most hotels and campings are situated.
Beer Festival “Birrasana”
Another significant event in Lloret de Mar, the neighbour town of Blanes, is the Birrasana Beer Festival, held in May every year.
It was earlier held in Blanes but has moved to Lloret de Mar.
Bars and Restaurants
In the old town, you will find many cosy bars, restaurants, and some great tapas places.
You will find some of the most popular hangouts in the area in front of the rock “Sa Palomera”.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 days, and it was very nice with wonderful beach-view from the balcony.
Great staff, and good breakfast with everything you need to start your day.
Little hard beds, but if that doesn’t bothers, you get good value for money here.
Budget Apartments with fantastic views
If you can endure a hill, and 5 minutes walk from the beach and center of Blanes, this is an apartment-hotel with good value for money.
All apartments have a balcony with nice sea-view.
